After living in the village for 15 years and not making that many visits. We have needed the practice and their support for the past 18 months. Firstly Dr Cottingham and then mainly Dr White. I don't know what I personally would have done without them. Our family was going through an extremely difficult time and their support and patience and knowledge was greatly appreciated. The doctors themselves kept in touch and generally organised themselves to see us again, always doing their very best to fit everything around our situation. I think our family will be forever grateful for all the advice and care we have received from them. The only thing I think we found difficult was booking appointments with reception and being asked why we wanted appointments, we found this uncomfortable and when needing doctors support or advice being told it wasn't possible to speak to anyone. I do understand they are busy but sometimes the handling of the call was not particulary helpful.

AFTERNOON SURGERY STARTED AT 3PM. MY APPOINTMENT WAS AT 5.20PM. THE SURGERY HAD ABOUT 3 PEOPLE SAT IN IT, I WAS LEFT WAITING NEARLY AN HOUR FROM MY APPOINTMENT TIME AND MANAGED TO FIND SOMEONE TO ASK TO MAKE SURE THE DOCTOR HADN'T MISSED MY APPOINTMENT 45 MINS INTO WAITING. ONCE IN WITH THE DOCTOR I SPENT APPROXIMATELY 30 SECS SEEING HIM. WHY DIDN'T THE CHEMIST OR THE RECEPTIONIST ADVISE ME I DIDN'T NEED AN APPOINTMENT FOR A REPEAT PRESCRIPTION??? TOTAL WASTE OF MY TIME WITH ALL THE NEW HOUSES IN THE VILLAGE I CAN ONLY EXPECT TO SEE THIS SURGERY FAILING CUSTOMER SERVICES FURTHER. IT TAKES ME HALF A DAY NORMALLY FOR THE THE SURGERY TO ANSWER THE PHONE AS IT IS ALWAYS CONSTANTLY ENGAGED. I VERY FAIRLY GO TO THE DOCS AS IT TAKES YOU 3 WEEKS TO GET AN APPOINTMENT AND UPTO AN HOUR WAITING ONCE YOU ARE THERE. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE IN 2017

This is a very good practice indeed, and our family has been very grateful for the care offered over the 14 years we have lived here. We have had excellent support from doctors, nurses, pharmacy and reception at all times, but also at times when we needed it fast. It can take 2 weeks to get a routine appointment with the GP you normally see, but if the matter is urgent you can always, in our experience, get to see someone quite quickly. Routine appointments can be pre-planned anyway, so waiting does not matter. We have used the out of hours service on rare occasions and it has worked fine. Our only suggestion at present is that the building could be improved a bit for wheelchair users - the door corners can be tight (especially from the downstairs corridor) and you have to hold open lots of doors while getting the chair around. But overall: a huge thank you to all at the surgery.

I feel when i constantly went to the doctors about my eczema there only andwer was steroid creams which make the skin think i had tried cutting some foods out of my diet saw a bit of a difference but the doctor would not do an allergy test on me as eczema skin is apparently sensitive anyway i payed to go private somewhere and i got it sorted straight away and they did an allergy test via blood test and found out what caused my eczema if that would of been addressed in the first place it could of saved countless trips to the doctors giving me more medication and the sorness of my skin and could of saved me to stop feeling depressed. Not a great practice.

General Practice is about more than hitting targets and meeting budgets, it is about making the patient fell welcome and at ease, it is about listening, caring and understanding a patient's needs. Sherburn practice has excelled in all these ways since we joined a couple of years ago. Having been a GP for 33 years (now retired) I consider myself very fortunate to have joined a practice that still holds onto the traditional values of primary care, Every member of the team that we have had dealings with has been totally professional and extremely helpful. General practice is under considerable pressure but this practice appears to function as a practice should from a patients point of view. Thank you to all the team.
